The Rt Hon Lord Turnbull (Alan Turnbull)

 

Lord Turnbull was appointed a judge of the Supreme Courts in 2006 and appointed to the Inner House in September, 2016.

He was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1982 and appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1996. He has experience in both a range of civil matters and employment cases before the Industrial Tribunals; and as defence counsel in criminal work.

From January 1995 to December 1997 he served as an advocate depute. In September 1998 he was engaged as one of the two senior counsel leading the Crown team in the preparation for, and conduct of, the Lockerbie bombing trial. He also appeared for the Crown in the subsequent appeal proceedings.

In February 2001 he was appointed as Principal Advocate Depute, a position he held until his return to private practice in January 2006.
