SUMMARY SHERIFFS' ASSOCIATION
The Summary Sheriffs’ Association represents, safeguards and promotes the interests and welfare of Scottish summary sheriffs and considers matters relating to the law and the administration of justice in Scotland.
The Association represents summary sheriffs in dealing with a wide range of organisations including the Judicial Office for Scotland, the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service, the Scottish Government, and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
It provides responses to proposed changes to the law and administration of justice, particularly those affecting the judiciary, while always upholding judicial independence.
It appoints or nominates members to serve on other bodies, including the Judicial Council for Scotland.
The affairs of the Association are managed by a Council of at least 6 members, ensuring representation from each of the sheriffdoms. Elections are held annually, and the 3 officer bearers are listed below:
- President - Adrian Cottam
- Vice President - James MacDonald
- Honorary Secretary & Treasurer - Peter McCormack.
