The Hon Lord Stuart

Lord Stuart was appointed a judge in the Supreme Courts in May 2022.

Lord Stuart first qualified as a lawyer on calling to the Scottish Bar in July 2003, having retrained following a successful career in business.  He holds Degrees in Economics and Law and Diplomas in Business Management and Legal Practice. He held a commission as a full time Advocate Depute between 2009 and 2012, during which time he prosecuted many challenging trials, including those involving murder and serious sexual offending. He qualified as a mediator with Core Solutions Group in 2015. He held office as a Court Reporter in child related matters and as Standing Junior Counsel to the Scottish Government. He was appointed King’s Counsel in 2017. A highly experienced court advocate, he worked across a wide range of criminal and civil matters.  In summer 2022 he was appointed a judicial member of the Employment Appeal Tribunal.  In November 2022 he was appointed a Family Judge in the Court of Session, to which he commits the significant majority of his judicial time.
