Sheriff Sheehan - President

 

Sheriff Sheehan is based at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in the sheriffdom of Lothian and Borders.

She was appointed as a sheriff in 2011, having served as a part-time sheriff for six years. She was admitted as a solicitor in 1991 and was accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a family law specialist and as a family law mediator.

She is a former convenor, trainer, and assessor for CALM and has undertaken more than 100 mediations. She was a founder member of the Family Law Arbitration Group, Scotland (FLAGS) and is now a FLAGS training convenor. She was a founding director of a niche family law practice. 

She sits on a number of Scottish Government committees in relation to family and adoption matters. She regularly delivers training for the Judicial Institute on family law, adoption and case management topics. She has recently been commissioned to write the adoption chapter in the new edition of MacPhail.

She served on the Council of the Sheriffs' Association between 2013 and 2016 and was the Association representative on the implementation group in respect of the Civil Courts Review and was the judicial member on the Taylor Review of Expenses and the Funding of Civil Litigation.
