MAY DUNSMUIR
May Dunsmuir, a solicitor, is the president of the Health and Education Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland. Prior to that she was the president of the Additional Support Needs Tribunals for Scotland before it transferred into the Health and Education Chamber in 2018.
She was a convener with the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland (MHTS) until October 2019; served as an in-house convener with the MHTS for 9 years; and was lead convener for child and adolescent mental health tribunals for 5 years.
Before accepting her judicial appointments, she was a children’s reporter and an authority reporter in Ayrshire. Prior to that she was the legal and parliamentary officer for a national mental health charity.
More recently, she led the design and development of the sensory hearing facilities which are provided in the Glasgow Tribunals Centre and the Inverness Justice Centre.
